The Office of the secretary to the state Government is the Secretariat of the Government of the State. It coordinates activities with all Ministries, Non-Ministerial and Extra-Ministerial Departments of the State. FUNCTIONS /RESPONSIBILITIES The Secretary to the State Government is directly responsible to the Governor of the State and carries out the following functions: - Coordination of the work of the Ministries/Departments
- Coordinating the activities of Commissions and Committees of Enquiry set up by Government
- Appointments to all Boards, Councils, Corporations, Government Parastatals and other political appointments
- National and State Ceremonies including the Democracy day, Armed Forces Remembrance Week, Nigerian Legion Affairs, Independence Day Celebrations
- Admission into Nigerian Defense Academy, Naval College, Military Schools, National Directorate of Employment and all recruitment affairs relating to the three arms of the armed forces
- Security matters and petitions and appeals to the Governor
- Protocol matter, state visits/functions
- Emergencies and disaster cases and relief management
- Labour and industrial relation matters
- Preparation of Memoranda, Notes and Minutes for Executive Council
- Liaison with Federal Ministries and Agencies, States, Non Governmental organizations, and international agencies
- Liaise with government at the local Government Areas and Liaison Offices
- Handling of matters of Nigerian Citizenship, Titles of honour and Decorations
- Liaison with Ministry of Justice and other Ministries/Departments in matters relating to the preparation and signing of bills
- instruments, regulations, legal notices, and Prerogative of Mercy
- Archiving of Government White papers on conclusions and Reports of Commissions of Inquiry, Committees and panels
- National Youth Service Corp Matters
- Carrying out such other specific assignment/responsibilities as the Governor may from time to time direct namely
